Roommate Vent #1

Dear Roommate,

I don't know what the social norms are in your house, but in my house it is not okay to be within one foot of anyone's face when they wake up. I am not saying you're ugly. It's just that I would rather not wake up to your face. I honestly have no clue why you were at the foot of my bed, but it was very disturbing to roll over and see your beady little eyes. Furthermore, it is not socially acceptable to turn the light on when someone trying to sleep. I do not care how dark it is in this room, use your phone as a light and find your way to the bed. In the case that you find you have to turn the light on, please do not leave it on for 45 minutes as you loudly open and shut drawers. Also, if you have to leave the room at night, do not leave the light on and the door open. I cannot count the number of times you have left the door completely open when I am trying to sleep. Not only does it put my possessions in danger, it makes me very uncomfortable that a stranger may enter the room.
What annoys me the most is that you ask me what your homework is. I am not your mother and I really do not care how you do in school. In terms of academic performance, I am the only person I care about. I will not let you borrow my lab notebook because you were to busy hanging out with people to actually do your own homework. I do feel bad that you do not have time management skills, but if I gave you my work, all I’d be doing is enabling you.
You lost your keys and Hokie Passport on the bus. That is a tragedy and I do feel bad for your inconvenience. However, I will not let it become my inconvenience. I will not leave dinner with my friends just so I can let you into the dorm. There is a reason we have Resident Advisors. If you can’t get into your dorm, ask them to let you in, not me. Losing your keys and Hokie Passport means that you can no longer enter the room if it is locked. I consider that a blessing. To your request to leave the door unlocked, I reject it. Leaving the door unlocked puts my possessions at risk of being stolen. I bought this computer with my own money, which I worked all year for. If my laptop gets stolen because of your forgetfulness, I will make you buy me another one. I do not care if you suffer because you lost your keys, but I will not suffer with you.
Have fun trying to get in.

  2. OMG, your roommate is really....., I really do not know how to describe it - - anyway, I have never been with a roommate like him. I really so much sympathize with you. In my mind, if I had a roommate like him, I will talk about my someone in the university who charges it, and change me roommate. Anyway, good luck man, I also hope he will has fun trying to get in.

  3. Leaving the door open in the night and turning on the lights when one tries to sleep are things which I cannot tolerate even a bit. Talk with him about it and if he doesn't mend his ways, I would suggest you to change your roommate.
